Homesteader Droopy

17 May

Homesteader Droopy was released in 1954 and like everything else I post about it was directed by Tex Avery. The Wolf steals the show once again, this time with great dialogue. There’s definetly some funny gags but everything out of the Wolf’s mouth gets me rollin’. I dug up a model sheet that I had on my hard drive, I don’t remember where I found it. Maybe Cartoon Network’s site, they used to have a bunch of model sheets there but they were all low resolution pics. Anyway here’s another one of my favorites.

Hey Joey, There’s a european set with all his cartoons. The set I have is a bootleg of an old laserdisc collection. It’s pretty much uncut. I’ll make copies for you and give them to you when you visit.

Cool… I don’t remember ever seeing a model sheet for this cartoon before. Who animated the scene of the wolf where he’s grabbing his belt as he’s talking? I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the animators were used to a more dimensional approach and resented the later designs, with their slick angles and flatness. But when I watch these cartoons, the animation is so fluid and graceful in its own way, and is always true to the models.

I wish I knew the answer to who animated that part. It’s amazing. To make a somewhat flat design move so fluidly. It’s strange because some of the other cartoons Tex made at the time weren’t as flat.
