I was watching “Mechanical Monsters” the other day and was reminded I had these two model sheets.

Sweet. I love it. I decided to check out “Mechanical Monsters” because of this post since I hadn't seen it in a very long time, and you'd never guess that the geniuses behind the Popeye cartoons (which I've been watching tons of this week), the Talkartoons, and many others also produced these Superman cartoons. They look almost nothing like their usual style, but are still incredibly well drawn, in my opinion. I think the Fleischers animated realistic human characters more convincingly that what Disney tried doing with “Snow White” a few years back, based from that cartoon. It doesn't look as mechanical or cold as Snow White did in that film and you can actually see the facial expressions a lot better, to be honest, although I still appreciate the incredible skill and hard work the Disney animators put into their product. It's mind boggling that modern animation with these superhero characters don't even have a fourth of the great draftsmanship the Fleischers displayed in that cartoon to be honest.

Enough ranting. By the way, could you send me some more comics to read? I ate up most of the great artwork in the other ones you sent me. Thanks.

I remember seeing these model sheets reproduced in Leslie Cabarga's book; I especially like the note to “keep wrinkles simple!” on Clark.
