Fox and Crow – "Unsure Runts"

16 May

Here’s one of the better Fox and Crow shorts, “Unsure Runts” directed by Howard Swift. Grant Simmons was one of the animators on this one. I had a bit of a problem encoding this one, there’s about 10 seconds beginning at 1:10 where it freezes. Sorry about that, just couldn’t get it encode properly.

Thanks for the cartoon, Kevin! Fox and Crow are always fun to watch. Loved the Andy Panda comics in your last post, by the way. If you have any vintage Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies comics or model sheets that haven't been posted up yet, could you post them sometime? Thanks!

Some of it reminds me of the later Road-Runner cartoons, albeït that in those the canid was the villain and the bird the protagonist.

I could never much get into the Fox and Crow stories, as the Fox is an innocent in most or all of them, and comes-out poorer in most of them.

I like the back and forth between the two. I think the characters had a lot of potential. But it does seem cruel that poor Foxy gets screwed most of the time.

Never seen this one before, thanks for posting it. I like how they kinda turned the tables and made the crow be the one who got repeatedly beat up throughout this one.

What a great cartoon! Yet, I can't help but feel for the Fox in these cartoons, as well as the comics. Such a strange message – it's OK, even funny, to cheat and fool the innocent. Now and then, though, the Crow got his. Just not often enough. Nevertheless, great animation.
